Heart Risk Calculator. Health Details: Calculate your 10-year risk of heart disease or stroke using the ASCVD algorithm published in 2013 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk. This calculator assumes that you have not had a prior heart attack or stroke. If you have, generally it is recommended that you discuss with your doctor about starting aspirin and a statin.

ASCVD Risk Estimator Plus is an update to the American College of Cardiology ASCVD Risk Estimator that uses recent science and user feedback to help a clinician and patient build a customized risk lowering plan by estimating and monitoring change in 10 year ASCVD risk. ASCVD stands for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, defined as a nonfatal myocardial infarction (heart attack), coronary heart disease death, or stroke. The purpose of the Pooled Cohort Equations is to estimate the risk of ASCVD within a 10-year period among patients who have never had one of these events in the past. ASCVD, or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, is caused by plaque buildup in arterial walls and refers to the following conditions: • Coronary heart disease (CHD), such as myocardial infarction, angina, and coronary artery stenosis > 50%. Why Use. Patients at risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). In 2013 the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) released new guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of cholesterol in order to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). ASCVD (Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease) Risk Algorithm including Known ASCVD from AHA/ACC Determines 10-year risk of heart disease or stroke and provides statin recommendations. AST to Platelet Ratio Index (APRI) Lastly, the ASCVD Risk Estimator Plus now allows the option to calculate initial 10-year ASCVD risk for patients who have already initiated a statin, “Initial 10-year ASCVD risk" may be calculated for patients who have already initiated statin therapy because recent evidence suggests a patient’s cholesterol values have the same impact on ASCVD risk regardless of whether current values were achieved with or without the aid of statin … 2017-11-21 For the primary prevention of clinical ASCVD* in adults 40 to 75 years of age without diabetes and with LDL-C 70 to 189 mg/dL (1.7 to 4.8 mmol/L), the 10-year ASCVD risk of a first "hard" ASCVD event (fatal and non-fatal MI or stroke) should be estimated using the race and sex-specific Pooled Cohort Equations (PCE) and adults should be categorized as low risk (5%), borderline risk (5 to 7.5%), intermediate-risk … Lastly, the ASCVD Risk Estimator Plus now allows the option to calculate initial 10-year ASCVD risk for patients who have already initiated a statin, “Initial 10-year ASCVD risk" may be calculated for patients who have already initiated statin therapy because recent evidence suggests a patient’s cholesterol values have the same impact on ASCVD risk regardless of whether current values were achieved with or without the aid of statin … 2020-06-01 2020-08-15 2020-10-01 MDCalc loves calculator creators – researchers who, through intelligent and often complex methods, discover tools that describe scientific facts that can then be applied in practice. Registratio… Managing ASCVD involves lowering high LDL-C and keeping it low. This is done with a combination of improved diet, more exercise, and a daily pill called a statin. Statins are considered to be the standard of care for lowering high LDL-C. Despite this approach, lowering LDL-C enough to reach target can be difficult Join the millions of medical professionals who use MDCalc daily to support clinical decision making at the bedside.
In addition, findings from a pre-specified, secondary analysis of the FOURIER trial found a monotonic relationship between achieved LDL-C and major cardiovascular outcomes down to LDL-C concentrations of less than 7 mg/dL (0.2 mmol/L) [3]. It seems that there is no lower threshold for LDL below which no further decline in ASCVD occurs.

Calculates ASCVD risk for heart disease and stroke using the 2013 ACC/AHA guidelines. An early criticism of the Pooled Cohort Equations Risk Calculator has been its alleged overestimation of ASCVD risk which, if confirmed in the general population, is likely to result in statin therapy being prescribed to many individuals at lower risk than the intended 7.5% 10-year ASCVD risk threshold for treatment in the joint ACC/AHA cholesterol guidelines. §For those in whom a risk assessment is uncertain, consider factors such as primary LDL-C ≥160 mg/dL or other evidence of genetic hyperlipidemias, family history of premature ASCVD with onset <55 years of age in a first-degree male relative or <65 years of age in a first-degree female relative, hs-CRP >2 mg/L, CAC score ≥300 Agatston units, or ≥75th percentile for age, sex, and ASCVD Risk Estimator.
